Soul legend Meli'sa Morgan pens touching tribute to departed loved ones
Throughout her stellar career Meli'sa Morgan had dislpayed a penchant for taking the classic hits by legends like Prince and Chaka Kahn and bringing something original to them, and she does the same thing her latest song, "Footprints of an Angel."
"Footprints of an Angel" finds Morgan singing of the pain of losing a loved one while also recalling the joy that person brought to her life. "Footprints of an Angel" is a song about memories and legacy that is driven by a memorable 'collaboration' between Morgan, co-lyricist Robert S. Toy. The song also dipes into soul music history by combining Morgan's heartfelt vocals with the classic musical arrangement created by Nicholas Ashford and Valerie Simpson on the Motown hit "Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing." Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell took that song to number one on the Soul charts and number eight on the pop charts in 1968.
On "Footprints of an Angel," Morgan takes us to a place where we will all have to journey at some point in our lives.
Morgan's sings with honesty and vulnerablity as she glides overr the Ashford and Simpson's classic arrangement. The song, which the great Valerie Simpson gave her personal endorsement, is from the soundtrack of the film "Footprints of an Angel," which is due to be released this summer. Morgan plays a mother who is grieving the loss of her daughter to cancer.
