Peace up everyone. Welcome to the brand-new review column I like to call the “Snack Pack Pick of the Week”. As host of Backpack Radio, I want to be sure when you venture out into the world, you have the proper snacks to keep you filled up. Each week I will bring you a review of a brand-new single hitting the streets that has dope rhymes and beats. So, now that you know what it is, let’s get to it.
Hip-Hop heads we are being blessed in 2025 with the return of our lyrical superheroes, the Shaolin warriors, The Wu-Tang Clan.
They just released the very first single off the up-coming Mathematics-produced album titled “Black Samson: The Bastard Swordsman” (release date April 25). The album will feature all nine-remaining members with RZA doing co-production. The first single is called “Mandingo”, and it is filled with so much dope energy I wanted to listen to it on repeat for like an hour! The single features Raekwon, Inspectah Deck, Method Man and, Capadonna. All four emcees do what they do, ride the kung-fu themed track and slice thru their verses like the sharpest swords in the samurai arsenal. Mathematics production fits perfectly and you can sense the RZA’s fingers were all on this track, with the kung-fu narrative samples used on it. The video for it seems AI-generated but, has a cool movie theme to it and the song is the perfect soundtrack. Go peep it out now!
