First Listen: Tony Greene pays tribute to the late Brenton Wood on new single

Tony Greene recalls hearing the music of Brenton Wood coming from radios throughout his Southern California neighborhood. "Growing up, Brenton was always playing in my neighborhood. His iconic voice would bellow out from a freshly painted lowrider riding by,” Greene recalled. Wood, who is best known for his biggest hits, “The Oogum Boogum Song” and “Gimme A Little Sign,” died on January 3.
Doing a Brenton Wood tribute album was natural for a singer who had memories and a geographic connection to the legendary soul singer. So, Greene released the EP Tony Greene Sings Brenton Wood: Vol. 1. Greene is a hard core fan, so this project features some of Woods lesser known material, including the song “Baby You Got It ,” which is the song featured in this First Listen.
Greene gives listeners a loving, straightforward rendition of “Baby You Got It,” a song that finds him expressing all of the qualities that allowed a woman to capture his heart. Greene and Wood both possess a similar vocal style and the instrumental arrangement has the same classic 60s soul sound.
