"Cause I Love You": Cecily’s Latest Single Blends Soul, Jazz, and R&B Magic
Cecily, a talented singer-songwriter from Washington, DC, now residing just outside the city in Maryland, has been making waves with her blend of American soul and jazz. Deeply influenced by 1970s artists who effortlessly fused Black American musical styles, her sound incorporates elements of folk and contemporary R&B. She draws inspiration from legendary artists such as Minnie Riperton, Gil Scott-Heron, and Anita Baker, shaping a style that is both timeless and deeply personal.
Her latest single, "Cause I Love You," comes from her album Awakening Pt. II. The song was born out of an organic and free-flowing creative session with co-writer Jenna Camille, where layered synth sounds and poetic lyrics merged to form its foundation. However, a key breakthrough occurred during the recording process with producer Drew Kid when the idea of adding a gritty guitar element was introduced. With the help of guitarist Zachary Cutler, the song was elevated to a whole new level, becoming Cecily’s personal favorite on the album.
