Carmen Jackson, a jazz vocalist from Detroit, Michigan, brings smooth vocals and emotional storytelling. Drawing inspiration from legends such as Nancy Wilson, Ella Fitzgerald, and Dionne Warwick. Her latest single, “Where Do We Go from Here”, is a heartfelt song of personal struggle and emotional growth. The song was created in a spontaneous moment while Carmen was sitting in her living room with her pianist. As they casually played around with melodies, one in particular began to take shape—something about it felt familiar, resonant. Carmen began to hum, and the melody stuck. Her pianist followed her lead, experimenting on the keys until a sound emerged that sparked a moment of creative clarity. From there, Carmen began penning the lyrics, capturing her emotions and the uncertainty of love.

Creating the song wasn’t without its challenges. Carmen and her pianist worked through several rounds of trial and error, crafting the arrangement so the music could truly reflect the lyrics. At the time, she was going through a difficult chapter in her personal life which was a seven-year relationship that seemed to be going nowhere. The lack of commitment and clarity pushed her to confront the question that ultimately became the song’s title. “Where do we go from here?” wasn’t just a lyric; it was emotional truth.

Now, Carmen is preparing to bring her music to an international audience. She is set to perform in Cannes, France, on June 4th, where she’ll share her voice, her story, and her artistry with jazz lovers from around the world.
